Ashy Slashy: Queen of Halloween "Movies Coming in 2021"

With COVID-19 creating it's own chaos movie for 2020, it's time to look ahead at what horror films will be coming to us in 2021. In all honesty I think we can all say that when they do decide to turn this year into one hell of a horror flick all on it's own.

While we did receive some horror films come out this year (The Grudge, Gretel & Hansel), unfortunately due to quarantine, moviegoers have been stuck at home relying on Netflix, Hulu and other forms of movie watching to bypass time during these times. Now while I don't mind online streaming services, in my opinion nothing beats the atmosphere of going into a theater. The smell of popcorn, small chatter amongst fans before the lights dim, everyone anticipating the movie they have all been waiting for.. *sigh*

But in the meantime, here are some horror flicks coming in 2021 that we can look forward to!

Escape Room 2
Release Date: January 1st, 2021

A sequel to thriller horror Escape Room, Escape Room 2 had its schedule pushed back from an original summer 2020 release date, for reasons unrelated to COVID-19. Not much is known about its plot, but considering the original's cliffhanging ending it will surely be interesting to see where this film will take off.

Morbius
Release Date: March 19th, 2021

Originally meant to be a summer blockbuster, its release date was pushed back due to coronavirus-related restrictions. This superhero flick will merge elements of today's superhero films with a touch of horror. Whether you are a fan of superhero films (Avengers, The Joker, Venom), if you're like me who is a fan of both, this movie will hopefully combined the two genres into a fantastic film.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It
Release Date: June 4th, 2021

This will be the third installment of The Conjuring franchise. While the plot is still in question, we can expect to see the return of Ed & Lorraine Warren (Played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga). Little is known about this film but I think we can expect unwanted jump-scares and demonic forces.

The Forever Purge:
Release Date: July 9th, 2021

The Forever Purge is said to be the fifth and final installment of the Purge franchise. The film was originally scheduled for a theatrical release in the US on July 10, 2020, but the release was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. No known plot as of yet, but we do know this: "This is the Emergency Broadcast System announcing the commencement of the annual purge. At the siren, all emergency services will be suspended for 12 hours. Your government thanks you for your participation."

Dark Harvest:
Release Date: September 24th, 2021

Director David Slade (Thirty Days Of Night, Hard Candy) will be bringing us an Halloween-themed movie for this Autumn season. An adaptation of Norman Partridge’s novel of the same name. If you're like me and love pretty much any Halloween-themed film, then this hopefully will be the flick all us diehard fans will enjoy.

Halloween Ends:
Release Date: October 15th, 2021

By Summer 2019, Halloween (2018) had two sequels announced. The first, Halloween Kills, is set to release October of this year. Assuming there are no further schedule changes the third and final installment in the trilogy, Halloween Ends, is set to hit theatres late 2021.

Cannibal Holocaust

Next on this list is the infamous Cannibal Holocaust. Cannibal Holocaust is a 1980 Italian horror film. In reverse-chronological, Alex is brutally raped and beaten by a stranger in the underpass. Her boyfriend and ex-lover take matters into their own hands by hiring two criminals to help them find the rapist so that they can exact revenge.

A Serbian Film

A Serbian Film is a 2010 Serbian horror film that tells the story of a financially struggling porn star who agrees to participate in an "art film". He then discovers he has been drafted into a snuff film with pedophilic and necrophiliac themes.

These movies have made it on every controversial and banned movies list you can think of. In all serious, if you do decide to watch these films, proceed with caution as they are not for the weak of heart. These movies are graphic in nature, are illegal in some countries, and are controversial for the images within. These films do include rape, torture, and gore.

Ashy Slashy: Queen of Halloween "Top 13"

Here are my Top 13 picks of Horror Movies You Need To Watch!

A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984)
If you haven't seen or at least heard of this movie, I'm assuming you've lived under a rock your entire existence. A Nightmare On Elm Street is about a teen girl named Nancy who starts being stalked in her dreams by a severely burned man. A secret the parents kept from their children comes to light as Nancy discovers why the man, Fred aka Freddy Krueger, is killing teens off one by one..

Friday the 13th (1980)Never question a Mother's love for her child. Friday the 13th is about a group of camp counselors getting ready to re-open a summer camp where, years prior, a young boy drowned. Now, someone is stalking the counselors and killing them off one by one. Who is the killer? Find out when you watch this awesome summertime flick!

Halloween (1978)
Talk about the definition of tall, dark and moody.. Fifteen years after a young boy named Michael Myers brutally kills his older sister on Halloween night, he escapes from the mental institution that has held him and returns home to kill again. This movie features a young Jamie Lee Curtis that marked her spot as a Scream Queen.

Scream (1996)
The movie that reinvented the horror genre as we know it. On the eve of the one year anniversary of Sidney's mother's murder, teenagers are being stalked and killed by an unknown killer. The killer always asking that infamous question: "What's your favorite scary movie?". This film will keep you on your toes until the final confrontation between Sidney and the killer.

IT (2017)
In the summer of 1989, a group of friends who call themselves the Losers Club come together to fight off a shape-shifting being, disguised as a clown, that is feeding off the children of Derry. This remake stands on it's own as a classic. Now to be fair, the original IT (1990) was a great film for it times, but because of limitations it couldn't live up to the full potential of Stephen King's book. Give this film a chance and in the end... you'll float too!

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
Before Michael, Freddy and Jason, we had Leatherface. Leatherface is inspired by a real life serial killer named Ed Gein. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is about a group of teens (two being siblings) going to visit a grandfather's grave that has recently been desecrated. They make the mistake of picking up a crazed hitchhiker and then their lives are in danger as they come face to face with a cannibalistic family.

The Amityville Horror (1979)
"GET OUT!" Based on a true story, newlyweds George and Kathy Lutz move into a beautiful home in Long Island with their children where a mass murder was committed. The family starts experiencing strange things within the house and eventually are run out by the supernatural forces that are inside. This flick will surely make you question ever buying a home with a brutal history.

The Evil Dead (1981)
The movie that proves nothing good comes from going into the woods, The Evil Dead introduces five college students in need of a vacation. They go to a secluded cabin in the woods where they discover there is evil lurking within. After finding an audio tape and book, flesh possessing demons are released and one by one they are taken. We're going to get you... not another peep... time to go asleep..

Jaws (1975)
This movie had people terrified of the water for years. When a killer shark causes terror on a beach community in Amity Island, the local sheriff along with a marine biologist and a eccentric seafarer come together to hunt the beast down. Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, this flick proves why it's never a good idea to not listen to the Sheriff.

Hellraiser (1987)
"You opened the box, we came!" If you're into sadomasochism then this is the film for you.... maybe. When Kirsty's father Larry and step mother move into his childhood home, unknowing to them the house is still occupied by Frank (Larry's brother). Frank used a supernatural puzzle box to summon demons known as Cenobites. Now Frank requires a blood sacrifice to escape the sadistic demons. Hellraiser is not for the faint of heart so proceed with caution.

28 Days Later (2002)
When a group of animal activists break into a laboratory with intention to release the chimpanzees, they discover that the chimps are infected with a virus that causes rage. Not listening to the scientist's pleas, they release the infected chimps with disastrous results. Twenty-eight days later, Jim wakes up from a coma and soon realizes he's alone in the hospital. As he begins to search for others, he soon discovers that majority of the population is infected and are no longer human. Will he survive?

The Exorcist (1973)
This movie will have you hating pea soup and not able to look at a crucifix properly for awhile. When a 12 year old girl named Regan becomes possessed by The Devil himself, two priests come together to try to save her soul. Inspired by true events. This head turning flick will surely give you nightmares and make you cringe at the thought of ever playing with a Ouija Board.

Trick R'Treat (2008)
Five interwoven stories that occur in the same area on the same night. A couple finds out what happens when you blow out a Jack O'Lantern before midnight, a high school principal has a secret life, a college virgin might finally meet a guy that's right for her, a group of teens play a mean prank that goes too far, and a mean old hermit gets a visit from a very special trick r'treater. This fun film will have you celebrating Halloween at any time of the year.

Now of course there are MANY, MANY more horror films I will always love to suggest and recommend, but for now, here's your starter pack into the genre of horror.

Ashy Slashy: Queen of Halloween "Texas Frightmare"

As we all know by now, the world is experiencing technical difficulties with a virus called COVID-19. We are all having to practice social distancing (which I'm going to be honest I've been practicing since birth), proper hygiene (the fact people are just NOW DOING THIS TERRIFIES ME.. considering I'm OCD/Germaphobe), wearing protective gear (and let's be honest MAJORITY aren't doing properly), and staying home (again... been doing this since forever..).

Thanks to COVID-19, when it comes to the convention community, a lot of conventions have been postponed, canceled, or have had their dates changed to a later time. Thankfully Texas Frightmare Weekend has rescheduled. Usually hosted in May, this year it will be hosted in September.

I am glad to announced that after FOUR YEARS, I'll be attending Texas Frightmare Weekend in September. Now if you aren't familiar with TFW, it's a great horror convention in Texas (at the DFW International Airport at the Hyatt Hotel). It's friendly, fun, and all things HORROR!

Here's a glance at some of the guests attending this year:

Are you attending? If so, let me know!

Ashy Slashy: Queen of Halloween "We alllll floaaatt!"

"Allow me to introduce myself! They call me the dancing clown! And you must be Georgie~ Did you hear my circus was in town?"

Fun Fact About Little Ole' Ashy Slashy: I'm a HUGE Stephen King Fan.
I started reading his books when I was a freshman in High School (so many centuries ago...). I'm also not a huge fan of clowns. It's not exactly a fear... they just weird me out.. So naturally we're going to be discussing Pennywise today! Aren't you excited?

"I'll take him! I'll take all of you! I'll feast on your flesh as I feed on your fear... Or... you'll just leave us be"

Now if you don't know who good ole' Pennywise is... I cannot help you. You are a lost cause to us all... Okay, okay... I'll be *nice* and help you out. Pennywise (also known as IT) is an being from a dimension that is beyond human comprehension. IT comes to Earth to feast on the fears of primarily children. Why children? They're easier to scare and they are just SO DARN tasty, apparently.

Pennywise the Clown is one of Stephen King's well known creations, striking the fear in all of us. Let's be honest here: clowns ARE a little creepy.. (anything that paints a "happy face" for a normal expression is just weird in general) and Pennywise is up there as one of the creepiest there is.

Whether you love the book, the 1990's IT, or the remake of IT(2017), Pennywise is a very fun character to try out when it comes to makeup. I've tackled Pennywise a few times now and each time I make him more and more creepy.. or try to anyway. It doesn't take a whole lot to make the character eerie. It's fun! Just watch out for those Deadlights...

You'll all float...soon
