Gore Noir:  Thank you for sitting down with us lady!  How's life treating you?

Mascara Machettes:  Life is treating me very well, I cant complain, still pumping that red!!

GN:  We love all your bloody photos!  What draws you to the red stuff?

MM:  I've been drawn to it since a young age, 9 years old to be exact.  call me a creep, but it's definitely part of who I am (figurative and literally). The depth, the color, the contrast, the way it looks on skin, the way it drips and splatters, it all fascinates me. Its like I fell in love with blood XD

GN:  I see you like to do SFX makeup, when did you first get into it?

MM:  As a matter of fact, I tried my hand at SFX for the first time a couple months ago! I didn't realize how well I knew my way around a gash or big flap of torn skin, until the first time I tried it.  I tend to study a lot of the stuff I look at in an image, I don't just simply " look" at it, I think that's aided me in learning a lot of the stuff I do for hobbies. I'm a figure-it-out-yourself type ghoul. Find the skeletons in things.

GN:  Is that an X-men tattoo I see on you?  Big comic book fan?  Favorite villain?

MM:  It IS an X-men tattoo!! My big brother was a big comic fan, so naturally, I would get into his stuff and check it out. I always LOVED the X-men! I always wished I had some sort of power like they did. I recently found out (3 years ago) that I am, in fact, A MUTANT. I have Factor Five Leiden Mutation, which is a genetic blood mutation that cause the blood to clot unnaturally fast. I always had trouble giving blood, as they had a hard time filling up a whole bag because my blood would clot inside the needle. When I was in high school giving blood in the gym, they had to stop because I stopped bleeding, they took the needle out and a gelatin needle shaped blood clot slipped out, laying on my arm. It was pretty bad ass. Favorite villain??? She's on the fence but by far my favorite character- Jean Gray: The Phoenix. Live, Die, Reborn stronger than ever, so totes relatable! XD

GN:  Let's talk horror..  I mean we run a horror magazine supposedly..  Give us a list of your favorite horror films!

MM:  My favorites would include: Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacres- all of em-  Carrie, Blair Witch Project, The Shining, The Descent, Insidious, The Evil Dead, Army of Darkness (more of a comedy but meh) same with Cabin in the Woods and Cabin Fever, Shaun of the Dead. I love those

GN:  What kinds of horror shoots do you have liked up or that you want to do? 

MM:  We just did a double concept shoot yesterday! It made my soul feel good to get back into some blood. It's a "Living Dead Girl" concept, first she was alive, cooking and cleaning for all you bastards,  then she was dead...but alive, reining Queen of the Damned ;) There's going to be a private art showing for it at Art Inspired Gallery in Springfield, Mo, closer to Halloween. I'm pretty stoked, I've never been the focus of a gallery before, so I kind of want to puke a little, too, hahah. Can't wait to see what RoadRageProductions comes up with. Tasty little nugget of info, there's a real heart and tongue in these..
funny, cheesy ones. The House on Haunted Hill for some reason.. All the Nightmares on Elm Street, Deliverance, yes, I say its horror XD, Wrong Turns- I have a thing for back woods horror haha. I just recently, believe it or not, watched Hell Raiser 1,2 and 3 for the first time ever!! I LOVED THEM! First one was the best.

I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in.

Have you seen the 'Dark Summer' trailer yet?

Dark Summer is a paranormal film by Paul Solet, put out by IFC Midnight.  I'm not a huge fan of paranormal films..  I'll just get that out in the open.  Dark Summer however, feels a bit different than your average Paranormal flick.  It's a lot darker and more devilish just from the look of it.  The films premise is definitely a departure from a lot of the demonic possession films that we've seen running rampant lately and I'm definitely glad it's not another POV found footage nugget.  They unfortunately (hint hint next time?) didn't grace me with a screener so I can only guess on most of this by the trailer but the one thing I know is that I'll give it a watch just for the hell of it.  I mean who can pass up a red eyed chick handing you her heart right?  I'll take your heart lady don't you worry..

The film is available on VOD, iTunes, and theatrical release right now so why not check it out?  Read below for a synopsis if you're still on the fence.

SYNOPSIS:  "DARK SUMMER combines the supernatural terror of classic horrors THE SHINING and POLTERGEIST, with the tension and modern cool of DISTURBIA. Summer is a time to relax, unwind, take a vacation, and be free. But 17 year old Daniel Austin gets none of that because his obsessive online stalking of his classmate and crush, Mona Wilson, got him put on house arrest for the whole summer. So, no cell phone, no Internet, no leaving the property, and especially no Mona. Then Daniel’s single mother has to go on a long business trip, and Daniel has the place to himself.

Daniel figures out a way to piggyback onto his neighbors’ wireless signal and, believing he’s surfing off the grid, uses his time to check in on his friends – and Mona... But what Daniel didn’t expect is for Mona to check up on him. And what she does next shakes him to his very core."

Hellraiser: Revelations

When it comes to horror, Hellraiser is definitely one of my top 3 movies.  Pinhead being one of my favorite all time movie monsters as well you could say that Doug Bradley is definitely up there as far as iconic actors in the genre go.  So why would I watch a Hellraiser movie that chose to forgo Mr. Bradley as his alter ego Pinhead?  Well I choose to watch certain movies just for the purpose of having the information needed to form an educated opinion.  I could blindly hate Hellraiser: Revelations and leave it at that.  I could be a purist and write the whole movie off because it had nothing to do with Clive Barker or Doug Bradley, or I could watch the movie and now be able to form an educated opinion.

I chose to watch the film. (I've been sick and with the amount of horror that I haven't watched on Netflix dwindling why not?)  I may catch some flack from the purists and that's perfectly fine.  I sure can't be loved by everyone so why not be hated by most?  So let's dive into this film.

Let's live in a fantasy world for a minute.  Let's imagine that instead of the Pinhead you see at the top left, you actually see Doug Bradley.  Yes he jumped on board with this film and now you're in the theatre seat ready to watch the next installment in Hellraiser.  With that in mind and all your predisposed anger at his replacement gone, let's figure out this film.  While there are lot's of problems with the film I think it actually came closer to the formula of the originals than most of the 8 some odd sequels did.  My main gripe with this film (remember we are imagining Doug Bradley is playing Pinhead lol) is the feeling that we get when we see the Cenobites.  The world they are living in just doesn't feel dirty and evil enough.  I really thought they were in this families basement for awhile.  Actually I'm not quite sure that they weren't even after seeing the whole film.

The acting wasn't all that bad when you're considering how rushed I'm sure this film was.  I've heard this film was just thrown together so that they could keep the rights to the name if I'm not mistaken.  We get a couple skinless folks thrown in which were done pretty well..  Not completely skinless of course because that would be expensive but you get the point.  I would have liked a bit more over the top bloody scenes but I'm hard to please in that area so we won't fault them for lack of gore.

With all that I can safely say that I enjoyed the film a lot more than 70% of the Hellraiser movies.  It just felt like it belonged in the same world as the first couple films, and it didn't drop us into a video game or a gothic mansion party, so that's refreshing.  With sequels and remakes being a really touchy thing recently I really think that people should probably pump the brakes and take a step back and see these things with new eyes.  Maybe without those anger shaded glasses we all have on we might be able to enjoy a couple movies for what they are instead of expecting them to live up to our sense of nostalgia that we have for older films.

Blood Lust and Texas Frightmare

With both Texas Frightmare and our Blood Lust San Antonio event coming up things are a bit stressful here at Gore Noir HQ.  Pile on top of that our move to a new spot and I'm pretty lucky to have any hair on my head right now.  We won't start talking about the greys that are coming in..

First let's talk about Blood Lust.  I just finished a mock up of the DVD case which will probably change a bit but we'll be bringing this bad boy wrapped around a dummy DVD box so people can get a feel for the packaging and purchase a presale if they'd like.  Presales will start at Texas Frightmare and will continue until a month before the DVD release.

The DVD won't be out until probably September or October so we have a ways out as we'll be putting some nice production value into the editing and whatnot.  Expect lots of bloody goodness in this sweet DVD!

Our table at Texas Frightmare will be in the same room as the folks from Walking Dead so when you go check out Norman Reedus (who will hopefully come by our booth) make sure you remember to come by our table and say hi, grab some stickers, and some magazines!  We'll be giving away free posters with all magazine purchases.

Diamond Dolls sneak preview

Just a little teaser..  Because we like teasing.. I mean who doesn't?  The Diamond Dolls and Gary Roberts put together an awesome shoot for our pages so why not let you folks see a bit of it?  There are a total of 6 pages that you'll be seeing the Dolls on.. 2 of which are our very first centerfold poster.

Jay Bird - Patient 247 - Working on issue 2

Welp it's about the time to start working on a new issue and keep that momentum going!  What better way to get the creative juices flowing than with some zombie ladies spilling their bodily fluids all over the page?  That's not a question because there is no better way.. Jay gets into some nice detail with his zombie art and still leaves you with a smile because there's a bit of sense of humor there with his art.  The ladies seem to be living life as normal like nothing has changed..  "Oh my arm is half gone? Doesn't stop me from partying one bit.."  You'll definitely want to check out his artwork in the next issue of Gore Noir and all the other artists I have in store for you kids.  Just imagine issue #1 on steriods (so much so that it's eyes have bugged out and the skin can't keep the muscles inside..
