The Creature Cometh!

Hello there Creature From the Black Lagoon fans!  Decided to grace you with a post about our upcoming CFTBL special issue!  YES this issue is shaped like a coffin!  It's Black and White in honor of all the old school horror films that came before as well.  The cover features artwork by Hagcult and there's a few other pieces and a short interview with Hagcult inside as well.  In addition to all this you'll find some original artwork in this issue that you won't be able to find anywhere else, as well as, interviews with writer of Lady from the Black Lagoon, Mallory O'Meara, and artist Carla Yeatts.

There's no better way to honor the Creature than to give you an issue chock full of art, old school posters, and snippets of information about the gill-man right?  I really wish I could have made this issue 1,000 pages to really do him justice but alas!  32 pages will have to do!  Grab your copy here:  https://gorenoirmagazine.bigcartel.com/product/creature-coffin-shaped-black-and-white-issue

There's also a package deal including our Dracula Coffin issue as well!!

Ashy Slashy: Queen of Halloween "Texas Frightmare"

As we all know by now, the world is experiencing technical difficulties with a virus called COVID-19. We are all having to practice social distancing (which I'm going to be honest I've been practicing since birth), proper hygiene (the fact people are just NOW DOING THIS TERRIFIES ME.. considering I'm OCD/Germaphobe), wearing protective gear (and let's be honest MAJORITY aren't doing properly), and staying home (again... been doing this since forever..).

Thanks to COVID-19, when it comes to the convention community, a lot of conventions have been postponed, canceled, or have had their dates changed to a later time. Thankfully Texas Frightmare Weekend has rescheduled. Usually hosted in May, this year it will be hosted in September.

I am glad to announced that after FOUR YEARS, I'll be attending Texas Frightmare Weekend in September. Now if you aren't familiar with TFW, it's a great horror convention in Texas (at the DFW International Airport at the Hyatt Hotel). It's friendly, fun, and all things HORROR!

Here's a glance at some of the guests attending this year:

Are you attending? If so, let me know!

Ashy Slashy: Queen of Halloween "We alllll floaaatt!"

"Allow me to introduce myself! They call me the dancing clown! And you must be Georgie~ Did you hear my circus was in town?"

Fun Fact About Little Ole' Ashy Slashy: I'm a HUGE Stephen King Fan.
I started reading his books when I was a freshman in High School (so many centuries ago...). I'm also not a huge fan of clowns. It's not exactly a fear... they just weird me out.. So naturally we're going to be discussing Pennywise today! Aren't you excited?

"I'll take him! I'll take all of you! I'll feast on your flesh as I feed on your fear... Or... you'll just leave us be"

Now if you don't know who good ole' Pennywise is... I cannot help you. You are a lost cause to us all... Okay, okay... I'll be *nice* and help you out. Pennywise (also known as IT) is an being from a dimension that is beyond human comprehension. IT comes to Earth to feast on the fears of primarily children. Why children? They're easier to scare and they are just SO DARN tasty, apparently.

Pennywise the Clown is one of Stephen King's well known creations, striking the fear in all of us. Let's be honest here: clowns ARE a little creepy.. (anything that paints a "happy face" for a normal expression is just weird in general) and Pennywise is up there as one of the creepiest there is.

Whether you love the book, the 1990's IT, or the remake of IT(2017), Pennywise is a very fun character to try out when it comes to makeup. I've tackled Pennywise a few times now and each time I make him more and more creepy.. or try to anyway. It doesn't take a whole lot to make the character eerie. It's fun! Just watch out for those Deadlights...

You'll all float...soon

Ashy Slashy: Queen of Halloween "There's nothing to worry about."

"There's nothing to worry about. You're going to be just fine. I will take good care of you. I'm your number one fan."

So I get asked quite frequently what inspires ideas for my makeups that I do. And the answer is pretty simple:
Horror.

Horror is my biggest inspiration. Horror is my love. Horror is my soulmate. Horror is life itself. Without horror I wouldn't be the crazy person I am today. I am a horror fanatic.
Villains also are a big inspiration for me. I can relate to the villain, the villain is always badass looking and let's face it: it's more fun to be a villain.
"Now Sid, don't you blame the movies. Movies don't create psychos. Movies make psychos more creative!"
When people ask me for advice on ideas for makeup, I usually if not always tell them to go with what inspires them. Horror inspires me, because you can quite literally take any character from anything and make it scary, make it horrifying, grotesque... And I love that with horror you have no limits. Horror gives so much room to get creative and that's why I love it so much.
Whatever inspires you, use it.

Whatever makes you happy, use it.

You'd be amazed with what you can set your mind to.

Ashy Slashy: Queen of Halloween "Trick R' Treat, lick my feet"

Trick R' Treat, lick my feet, I'll give ya something good to eat... Wait a minute.. that's not right 🤔..
Wassup my boils and ghouls?! Who else loves October? Why wasn't I born in this month? Dammit mother! Anywho.. do you binge watch horror movies? Given I binge watch horror all year long, I know sometimes you creeps only do it for October, but since we discussing horror: have ya figured out your costume yet?
You haven't?! You slacker! For shame!!... I kid. Mostly.
1.. 2.. I'm coming for you..

So, I've had many ask me what is my favorite horror movie of all time & who is my favorite slasher. I thought it was a given: A Nightmare On Elm Street & Freddy Krueger.  Now I know Mr. Krueger isn't exactly an easy costume to tackle, with those blasphemous masks that are nightmare worthy themselves... I'm going to help YOU become everyone's favorite child killer!
First things first: if you want to do make-up instead of the ridiculous masks, it's actually easy! All you'll need is the following:
• Liquid Latex
• Red, Flesh tone pink, Brown & Black eyeshadows
• Body Paint Red (optional)
• Fake Blood (optional)
Now liquid latex isn't as complicated as people make it out to be and it's also not hard to find. You can usually find it at Halloween stores, but you can also find it at Party City or online. Your burns don't have to be accurate to Krueger himself, unless you go set yourself on fire, but I highly don't recommend..
So, with the liquid latex:
Step 1: With either using a make-up tool or your fingers, start applying the latex on your face, neck, and depending how low your sweater goes, chest. Avoid eyes and mouth. Once the latex dries, do this step at least 3 more times. For eyebrows, now I can tell you how to block eyebrows, but considering I have yet to master this technique, you might have to YouTube it. Completely optional. Or you could just get your Freddy glove and slice your eyebrows off? Who needs eyebrows...
Step 2: Once you got the latex good and thick (that's what she said) quite literally start rubbing random areas with your finger (or with a make-up tool) until you start creating holes within the latex. Now be careful doing this or you'll just end up having to be set on fire.
Your latex should look something like this (minus the eyeshadow):

*From my Ouija Possessed Make-up*
Step 3: When you have the open areas on your face good and ready, start applying red eyeshadow into the inside of the holes you just created. Around the holes, lightly apply the pink. With the brown, go around the inside edges lightly. With the black, do the same thing you did with the brown, but be careful not to make it too dark. I know this sounds complicated, but it's not as complicated as the CGI disaster they did on Jackie in the stab-a-teenager remake.
Step 4: So basically with the eyeshadows, you're creating the appearance of the burns. There's no right or wrong way of doing this. Now with your eyes, use the red and brown eyeshadow, but if you want, you can do beauty make-up. It's completely up to you
Now, once you have gotten the make-up to your liking, it's time for your Christmas sweater, your hipsters-made-it-popular fedora, your blades for days glove, and you're ready to go on a teenager slashing spree! But beware of their fire happy parents.. and Jason of course.

I hope this helps you become the dream demon we all know you can be!
Pleasant Nightmares, my bitches!

- Ashy Slashy
