Horror-Day Shopping Guide 2015

Hello! It’s that time of year again where I share with you a big ol’ list of awesome horror related companies and products? I’ve picked theses companies based primarily on gifts that I myself would like to receive. I’m a huge horror fan, a makeup artist, an artist, and a haunter! All aspects of my life from my fashion choices to my many jobs revolve in and around the horror realm. I’ve met many amazing like minded artists and business owners who feel and live exactly like I do! I didn’t just fart out a generic list of shit. These are companies I shop from (window shopping included!) These are my friends and my colleagues. I love them all dearly! All of these companies are run by small teams of incredible hard working people and deserve your hard earned monies. They are all of the highest caliber! No disappointments or shady dealings here. TRUST AND BELIEVE!

I searched around the web to see if I could dig up some coupon codes and sales for you ghouls. I’m a bargain whore! I suggest following any of these companies that tickle your fancy on social media. Some of them may be having sales, but wont release the details until the very last second. If I happen to see this happen, or if I come across anything else really cool after I’ve already posted this I’ll edit and add details, so please check back!

If you just so happen to live in the Austin, Texas area here is a killer event where you can peruse the wares of local artists and vendors. My haunt family and I will be providing the Evil Santa and Krampus....Gore Noir may be there too!

HAPPY HORROR-DAYS AND HAPPY SHOPPING!!!

Gore Noir Magazine!

I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t begin this post with some shameless self promotion...OF COURSE I would recommend shopping directly with US this holiday season. DUH. I assume you’re familiar with us if you’re reading this, but just incase you happened upon this randomly, Hey! We’re Gore Noir Magazine. We are an up and coming independent Horror art and culture magazine. We do our best to get issues out quarterly, with a few limited edition ones here and there. We are the only publishers (to my knowledge) who have fancy coffin shaped magazines! Each one has a theme and is printed in black and white for that classic horror feel. We also do full color 60 page issues jam packed full of awesome art, bands, tattoos, photographers, products, sexy ladies, and more! We offer our magazine in both print and digital formats to suit your needs. We also have a handful of fun merchandise aside from reading materials...Art prints, posters, sacrilegious candles, patches, jewelry, and more!

Sourpuss is a great one stop shop for cool “alternative” clothing and housewares. They have tons upon tons of great items for men, women, and sometimes even kiddos and pets! Fashion pieces, home goods, and other fun and unique gifts are all offered here on one site. So good! I was able to do a lot of my holiday shopping here last year, and have already loaded up my cart for family and friends again! Yes...I even bought things for my parents here. There really is something that anyone would enjoy here...Right now my favorite thing on the entire site are these killer shark attack salt and pepper shakers. Look at them! How could a spice dispenser get any cuter!? HUH!!!???

Calabrese
I saw the brothers Calabrese post something on their instagram about these new items for Christmas...they appear to be wooden planchette, so I ventured to their website to investigate. Obviously I need a Calabrese planchette. I did not see anything about these mysterious wood blocks, but I did see that their merch store is having a saaaaaaaaallllleeee!

HIGH END
Here are a couple companies that I think are a little on the high-end side. These are for those special boils and ghouls on you list. Delight your boo or your BAE (that stands for Body After Embalming, right?) with one of these incredible works of art! These are also smaller businesses run by just one or two brilliant artists! Gotta love supporting the arts! I consider anything over $100 to be a “high end” item...if that makes me cheap, then I would refer you back to the top of this post where I mentioned being a “bargain whore”...ahem...

Bloodmilk Jewelry
Exquisite dark and macabre jewels guaranteed to make any darkhearted ghouls heart grow three times it’s size. Each piece is designed and crafted with much thought and care. The pieces even often have stories to accompany them which is a feature I adore about this company. Please give them a read and I’m sure you’ll fall even more in love with these beauties than you did on sight alone. She uses fine natural materials while still being able to keep costs remarkably low! BEWARE IMPORTERS! Bloodmilk is OFTEN IMITATED, NEVER DUPLICATED! There are sellers out there knocking off these works of art using low quality and harmful materials! Always go with the original.

Global Fear Enterprises

If that special someone is a fan of masks and costumes of creepy creatures plucked straight from their nightmares, then GFE is the place for you. These handcrafted high end costumes and props used primarily within the professional haunt industry...DEFINITELY not your run-of-the-mill Halloween store bagged costumes...you can’t even compare! The mission statement of GFE is right in the name....the desire for the global spread of fear. GUESS WHAT! They are ALSO having a sale! Costumes are marked down to the wickedly sweet price of only $666 (props, accessories, and weapons are not included in the sale!) How can it get any better!?

MAKEUP &SPECIAL EFFECTS
If you have someone on your list that is interested in the world of makeup and special effects giving them the gift of materials, education, or other products and supplies can be a huge help. Weither they are a seasoned professional, or a beginner, any little help would be an amazing gift. Speaking as a makeup artists myself, I can confirm that makeup, materials, and education can be VERY expensive. I know that if anyone gave me any of these things I’d be eternally grateful. Here are a few suggestions....

Stan Winston School
The leading source of education on the web has to be Stan Winston! There are TONS of web courses on everything from z-brush to blood gags. If you’re just a beginner, or even a seasoned pro you can always learn something new or get a nice refresher. All of the courses are taught by industry professionals including...the man...the myth...the legend...who taught me how to sculpt: Don Lanning! They offer both live classes and past classes “on demand” through their site. There is even a section to pick up supplies for specific courses. Can’t recommend this incredible oasis of education highly enough! I’d also suggest following them on social media to see the massive amounts of inspirational artwork that they post daily.

Monsterous Makeup Manual
I attended a makeup school out in LA and one of my favorite instructors wrote some of his very own text books! Michael Spatola is an excellent teacher and his books go into depth about tons of useful things. How to mix foam latex, techniques for highlight and shadow makeups, and so on! You wont be disappointed!
http://www.monstrousmakeupmanual.com/

Zombie Skin

This stuff is incredible! It’s essentially whipped latex sans ammonia! It’s great for buildups, adding texture, and can even work to help blend edges on foam latex appliances, and it drys fast! I love this stuff! Guess what!? They’re even having a SALE! Yaaaay discounts!

“Zombie Skin decided  that our customers deserved a huge discount on Zombie Skin for Black Friday!!! Our regular retail price is $28.99 so Black Friday our price for our Flesh tone 4 ounce Jar will be $20.00 plus shipping from 6:00am till 11:59pm!!! Coupon code will be released at Noon Eastern Standard time on Thanksgiving Day!!!”

Monster Makers/Monster Clay
Monster Makers has become the creme of the crop for all of your monster making needs...hence the super appropriate name! To name only a few awesome products in their extensive line...they have foam kits, mask latex, BEAUTIFUL clay that can be recycled, sculpting forms and more. They offer quite a few kits that I think would make excellent gifts!
http://www.monstermakers.com/

Pale Night Productions
Pale Night Productions is responsible for one of my alltime favorite products, PERMA-BLOOD! Perma-blood is a blood paint that can be used on props, costumes, masks, models, sculpture, art, set dressings, anything really...I know a lot of haunters who use it to blood splatter shoes, phone cases, glasses, and even their vape tanks! It’s so much fun! You’ll want to PERMA-BLOOD ALL THE THINGS!

From the site: “Perma-Blood is the haunt industries' BEST blood paint period.  Most blood paints dry pink or brown or don't dry at all.  Perma-Blood dries bright red and glossy to always appear fresh.  It dries completely tack free and is flexible and waterproof on most surfaces.  That makes Perma-Blood great for use on walls, props, and even costumes.”

Perma-blood is amazing, but it is NOT skin safe! Do not use this for makeups! You have been warned!
http://www.palenightproductions.com

Smooth On
Smooth On is another popular company in the FX world. Here you can grab TONS of different materials for molding and fabrication.....I don’t even know where to start listing?
http://www.smooth-on.com/

RBFX
RBFX has gained the reputation for selling the best foam and silicone appliances you can buy! They are constantly adding new pieces to their collections and you can see these things all over Film! RBFX has so many big hitters in the FX world sculpting for them on a regular basis! So much beauty and talent and I SAID GOD DAYUM those edges!

Giftcards to any local hobby, craft, home improvment/hardware stores can always be very helpful! Particularly those places that also have those amazing daily 40% off coupons! You know who you are!
If you are lucky enough to live close to any of the awesome professional makeup supply stores I’d suggest getting a gift there. It’s cool to ask someone what they NEED that can really help them out. I always appreciate something I need over some silly knick knack, but that’s just me! If you want it to be a surprise you can try poking around their shop space, or makeup kit...if you’re sneaky and you don’t fear the wrath of an artist who's very expensive toys were touched...You could also try stopping by the store and just asking someone on staff to help you out, or do a little googling.

Need a good soundtrack for your Halloween? Read on about Obscuri..

© 2015 Obscuri Photography All rights reserved.
It's a Wednesday night and I'm in a town not too far from San Antonio.  It's a good hour jaunt from Austin (which I've called home over the last 3 years) but I made the trip to hang out with my good friend and official Gore Noir staff photographer, Obscuri.  Obscuri has been creating amazing  ambient horror music lately and I couldn't wait to hear some of the tracks.  We are sitting in his new "Doom Room" surrounded by his medical collection, listening to some of the music that he's been working on.  Each track he starts up has it's own feel and aesthetic to it.  Each brings it's own imagery to mind and as we listen I'm talking to Obscuri, explaining the visuals that are popping into my mind as the music plays.  It also helps to set the tone as the real human skulls are staring back at us in the Doom Room and the wet specimens lay in their jars.  All of this helped fuel the creativity that Obscuri's music was now invoking.

Obscuri is talking about some of the haunts and bands that he has already started working for and creating his ambient tracks for.  The soundscapes he creates definitely lend themselves to an overall feeling that would work well in a haunted house.  Once we've crawled our way through his project tracks we decided to mess around and create a new track on the spot.  It was interesting being able to watch the creation process and give input to help mold the soundscape.  The piece ended up having a very 70's satanic slasher's house feel to it.  I'll link you to it and more of his music below (the name of the track is "Gates to Hell".  If you have yet to hear any of Obscuri's work definitely check it out and hire him for your movies, your haunt, your batmitzva or whatever you need dark ominous music for.  Enjoy!  (Click here to go to the full soundtrack site for Obscuri)

Who's watching Hemlock Grove The Final Chapter (Season 3) on Netflix with me? (10/23)

It's that time of year again!  Halloween you say?  Well yea..  That too..  But no!  I'm talking about Hemlock Grove!  Have you seen season 1 and 2 yet?  No?  Well you have some catching up to do..  Season 3 drops 10/23!  All episodes will be available all at once..  Which means you can do like I do and binge watch the hell out of it!  Or you can slowly ration yourself an episode every so often..  But who does that?  BINGE!!  That's what Netflix is for right?  Now you can Netflix and Chill with Hemlock Grove on your device..  And it's going to be a marathon..  No what I mean?  Wink wink..  Nudge nudge..

Last season ended off on what has to be one of the strangest season finale/cliffhangers that I've ever seen on a series..  I was literally like..  WTF?!?  That just happened?!?  For those of you that have seen season 2 you know what I mean..  My brain melted out of my ears..  Eyeballs packed up and took a vacation..  They said..  "NAWP!  I'm out..  What the hell was that?!?"  So I have no idea how they are going to continue on from there..  Well they are definitely saying that season 3 is the LAST SEASON..  THE FINAL CHAPTER.   So we will be learning a lot about the characters..  ALL WILL BE REVEALED!  Here's to some skin being revealed..  Oh and blood and guts too..  I think we are going to see lots of that..  High grade wood chippers maybe?

Anyway..  I'm excited..  Throw your comments in the section below and let me know what you think of the show and let me know where you are at with the new season when you start watching.  Here's to some Hemlock Grove on Netflix and Chill!!  CLIP BELOW FOR ALL YOU FREAKS!!

Soska Sister's Hellevator Premieres Wed Oct 21st on GSN!!

I know everyone else is following the Soska Sisters on their social media so you already know about the gameshow they're coming out with on the Game Show Network right?  RIGHT?!?  Well if you've been living under a rock here's the lowdown..  The gameshow is called Hellevator and it premieres this Wednesday Oct 21st 8/7c on Game Show Network.  This is a terrifying new gameshow from Blumhouse, and hosted by our favorite Twisted Twins The Soska Sisters.

The show places contestants in a warehouse where they then are guided into the Hellevator.  The Hellevator takes them to the different floors that they will get asked to go through devious challenges.  Each challenge will test the limits of the contestants fears to see if they have what it takes to win the money.  I was able to watch the first 10 minutes of the show on Yahoo HERE

I saw a few sites attempting to say that the horror crowd would not like Hellevator, that it was more for the mainstream crowd..  But I would beg to differ.  Just from the first 10 minutes you can see that it definitely brings the blood..  And I have no doubts that the Twisted Twins will make this gameshow into a must watch.  I was a huge fan of American Mary and I watch it all the time.  Pretty amazing stuff.  Well ladies if your name is attached to it you'll have a viewer in me.  Keep being awesome!  Oh! And we've also got a quick clip for you below!  Enjoy!

Mascara Machettes Model Interview

mascara machettes Gore Noir:  Thank you for sitting down with us lady!  How's life treating you?

Mascara Machettes:  Life is treating me very well, I cant complain, still pumping that red!!

GN:  We love all your bloody photos!  What draws you to the red stuff?

MM:  I've been drawn to it since a young age, 9 years old to be exact.  call me a creep, but it's definitely part of who I am (figurative and literally). The depth, the color, the contrast, the way it looks on skin, the way it drips and splatters, it all fascinates me. Its like I fell in love with blood XD

GN:  I see you like to do SFX makeup, when did you first get into it?

mascara machettes
MM:  As a matter of fact, I tried my hand at SFX for the first time a couple months ago! I didn't realize how well I knew my way around a gash or big flap of torn skin, until the first time I tried it.  I tend to study a lot of the stuff I look at in an image, I don't just simply " look" at it, I think that's aided me in learning a lot of the stuff I do for hobbies. I'm a figure-it-out-yourself type ghoul. Find the skeletons in things.

GN:  Is that an X-men tattoo I see on you?  Big comic book fan?  Favorite villain?

MM:  It IS an X-men tattoo!! My big brother was a big comic fan, so naturally, I would get into his stuff and check it out. I always LOVED the X-men! I always wished I had some sort of power like they did. I recently found out (3 years ago) that I am, in fact, A MUTANT. I have Factor Five Leiden Mutation, which is a genetic blood mutation that cause the blood to clot unnaturally fast. I always had trouble giving blood, as they had a hard time filling up a whole bag because my blood would clot inside the needle. When I was in high school giving blood in the gym, they had to stop because I stopped bleeding, they took the needle out and a gelatin needle shaped blood clot slipped out, laying on my arm. It was pretty bad ass. Favorite villain??? She's on the fence but by far my favorite character- Jean Gray: The Phoenix. Live, Die, Reborn stronger than ever, so totes relatable! XD

GN:  Let's talk horror..  I mean we run a horror magazine supposedly..  Give us a list of your favorite horror films!
mascara machettes

MM:  My favorites would include: Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacres- all of em-  Carrie, Blair Witch Project, The Shining, The Descent, Insidious, The Evil Dead, Army of Darkness (more of a comedy but meh) same with Cabin in the Woods and Cabin Fever, Shaun of the Dead. I love those

GN:  What kinds of horror shoots do you have liked up or that you want to do?

MM:  We just did a double concept shoot yesterday! It made my soul feel good to get back into some blood. It's a "Living Dead Girl" concept, first she was alive, cooking and cleaning for all you bastards,  then she was dead...but alive, reining Queen of the Damned ;) There's going to be a private art showing for it at Art Inspired Gallery in Springfield, Mo, closer to Halloween. I'm pretty stoked, I've never been the focus of a gallery before, so I kind of want to puke a little, too, hahah. Can't wait to see what RoadRageProductions comes up with. Tasty little nugget of info, there's a real heart and tongue in these..
funny, cheesy ones. The House on Haunted Hill for some reason.. All the Nightmares on Elm Street, Deliverance, yes, I say its horror XD, Wrong Turns- I have a thing for back woods horror haha. I just recently, believe it or not, watched Hell Raiser 1,2 and 3 for the first time ever!! I LOVED THEM! First one was the best.

TARMAN SCRATCH N SNIFF GORE NOIR MAGAZINE COVER FOR ISSUE 14 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD!!!

If you've followed us for awhile you'll know that we try to push the envelope with our magazine.  We don't want to be your run of the mill magazine showing everybody the same tired movies that are coming out with a cover that features whatever new movie paid us enough to have the cover.  SO WHAT DO WE DO?  We add a SCRATCH N SNIFF cover to our repertoire!  I mean why wouldn't you want to be able to smell what the TARMAN is cookin'?

We like paying homage to the artists, the 80's blood fests, the amazing people that helped shape our horror landscape today.  One of those influencial movies for me was Return of the Living Dead.  Tarman is arguably one of the most iconic movie zombies out there right?  Well in our issue #14 we get to not only interview the man inside the Tarman suit Allan Trautman, but also the man who designed the iconic look of Tarman: William Stout.  Alongside these amazing talents is the SCREAM QUEEN Linnea Quigley, aka Trash.

Throw in a bunch of awesome artists, such as Munk One (cover) & Andrew P. Barr,  who also pay respects to the movie, and you have one awesome issue ahead of you!  We also have interviews with Vince Ripper and the Rodent show, Calabrese, Glenn Hetrick, Pallbearer Press, Kat Wilson, and more!  This issue is not to be missed!  The only way to guarantee yourself a SCRATCH N SNIFF Tarman cover is to PREORDER YOUR COPY!  We can't guarantee there will be any leftover..
